As a remote barrier island, Ocracoke comes with unique logistical challenges. Currently, we have just two internet service providers on the island. One is more affordable but often unstable and not very responsive when it comes to service calls. If we need to schedule a technician visit during your stay, it can take several weeks—long after most guests have packed up and returned home.

The second provider offers better service but is significantly more expensive, and many homeowners choose not to invest in it. Even for those who do, there’s often a waitlist to get connected.

And let’s not forget the weather—our constant coastal winds can wreak havoc on even the best connections. It’s not unusual for internet signals to drop during windy or stormy weather.

What You Can Do

We understand how important a stable internet connection can be for some guests—especially for remote work, video calls, or streaming. If strong internet access is a must-have during your vacation, we encourage you to consider bringing a personal MiFi device, checking your cell provider’s coverage and hotspot capabilities, or even looking into other vacation spots with more robust internet infrastructure.
